TNI Harfendi, S.I.P., M.Sc., attended the Coordination Meeting for Emergency Management of Drought Disasters and Forest and Land Fires in Bali Province, which was chaired by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lt. Gen. TNI Suharyanto, S. Sos., M.M., and Acting Governor of Bali Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, at Wiswa Sabha Utama, Bali Governor’s Office, on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
The coordination meeting was held based on the development of extreme weather currently occurring in the Bali Province region, which has had an impact on fires in several places, namely forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Karangasem Regency, as well as at Suwung Denpasar TPA, Mandung Tabanan TPA, and Temesi Gianyar TPA.
In the coordination meeting, act. The Governor of Bali expressed his gratitude for the moral and personnel support from Kodam IX/Udayana in supporting the handling of the landfill fire. Also discussed were efforts to deal with land fires and drought, which have recently become more widespread in the Bali region.
“With the fire disaster that occurred at several landfills, it requires the regional government to issue an emergency response status. This is to collaborate with all parties to support the acceleration of handling fire disasters,” said the act. governor.
Responding to this, Pangdam IX/Udayana said that currently, Kodam IX/Udayana is ready to support personnel in handling fire disasters in the Bali Province area. Soldiers from Kodam IX/Udayana have also taken part in extinguishing the fire at Suwung TPA, Denpasar.
“Currently, we have deployed a number of personnel and materials to help speed up the handling of the fire. There are dozens of soldiers from Yonif 900/SBW and Denkav 4/SP who are now at the Suwung TPA. Apart from that, Bekangdam IX/Udayana has also prepared and set up Velbed at the TPA Suwung Fire Management Post,” said the Pangdam.
The Pangdam further explained that this was a contingency action in the context of Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP). Assistance with firefighting personnel is carried out until the completion of the emergency response status or fire management activities at Suwung Landfill.
At the end of the activity, the Head of BNPB handed over support for emergency preparedness equipment for the Bali Province drought disaster to Kodam IX/Udayana in the form of 3 sets of Mobile Rig and Roip Gateway Communication Equipment, 120 Hytera PNC380 units, and 100 Hytera BP568 units.
Also present at the coordination meeting were Kabinda Bali, Aster Kasdam IX/Udayana, Kasrem 163/WSA, the Regional Secretary of Bali Province, Danlanal Denpasar, and Danlanud Ngurah Rai, as well as mayor and regent officials throughout Bali Province and the Dandim ranks of Korem 163/WSA.
